Wouldn’t it be nice if the size was universal and shopping he did not do Involve extensive guess work in order to determine what fits? The age-old problem of inconsistent sizing – especially for women’s clothing – has not been resolved. Behind every online order or trip to the mall is a group text of women discussing how a pair of true-to-size jeans work. It’s stressful! Unfortunately, however, a wave of hope swept through our collective consciousness when TikTok videos went viral suggesting a possible explanation for Zara’s scaling.

The retailer was the least user-friendly in the history of online shopping really about to be revealed a The sizing secret that can solve all your unsatisfactory dressing room problems? It sounded too good to be true – like, road Too good to be true.

In a few now viral TikToks (like this one by @muddlethroughmummy and this one by @lucyc.jpeg), users demonstrated how simple circle, square, and triangle symbols on Zara tags can be used to pre-determine how each element fits. The circle will indicate that the element is large, the triangle means that it is small and the square means that it is the correct size. brilliant! Change the game! But alas, a legend.

Believe me, I am equally disappointed to debunk this theory as you should read it. According to a brand spokesperson, the symbols on the Zara tags do not represent the size of the item but rather the Zara collection that the piece is a part of. If you’re not a Zara expert, you might not have noticed that the retailer constantly carries three different collections of clothing: Zara Woman, Zara Basic, and TRF. The icons are associated with the brick and mortar store space with which the clothing item must be grouped.

Now for an intensive course. TRF stands for Traveloc. The name doesn’t mean anything, but the collection usually offers trendy pieces at lower price points aimed at the younger consumer. The TRF line is a great way to try out seasonal trends without spending big bucks. Next, there’s Zara Basic, which is self-explanatory. Think classic white T-shirts and functional jackets, and save up on denim. Finally, Zara Woman has a higher price point with better quality pieces that fit both styles And Classic patterns.

Ironically, I turned to retail therapy to overcome my disappointment with the sizing scandal. Go ahead and play hash roulette and get two of the best things right on Zara (you know you’ll have to return one anyway!). In the meantime, I’ll keep dreaming about consistent sizing – and hopefully Zara or other fashion retailers have noticed the short-term collective comfort of the internet and will implement some of their label code!
